Did you ever wonder why they call it the Simple life?

I think anyone who lives on a farm or homestead can agree, it's anything but simple.

You can Never plan your day. Well, you can, but 9 times out of 10 it will never go as planned. Things will break down, animals will get sick or need special care, you will always come across something you forgot to do 3 weeks ago and has now become that days priority.

It's not your typical 9-5 job. You don't come home from a hard days work to relax. Your at work all day every day. If something happens, you deal with it, if something or someone needs you, you deal with it. It can't always wait till tomorrow.  You don't get sick days or vacation days, if you don't work, animals won't get fed, your chores will double for the next day and you don't make money.

Its long days, heavy lifting, getting dirty and lots of planning ahead and guessing what your farm will need to keep surviving or what people will want to buy in the summer when it's the middle of winter.

However, with all that said, there's always a way to find the time to sit by the fire with a glass of wine, relax, and take in the satisfaction of all the work thats been done and all the happy animals grazing and resting in the pasture. It's not a simple life, it's not an easy life, but it's a life filled with surprises, laughter and satisfaction. And I wouldn't change it for anything else.
